McWitty Press

McWITTY PRESS, founded in 2003, is a small, independent company that publishes in a variety of categories, from literary novels and memoirs to illustrated children’s books. Founded by a pair of Time Magazine veterans, the Press is dedicated to producing books of the highest editorial quality.

Ellie McGrath, co-founder of McWitty Press, has had a decades-long career as a Writer and Editor at Time Magazine. The press was founded during her tenure at Conde Nast Inc.’s Self Magazine, where Ms. McGrath served as Editor-in-Chief. She is also author of the non-fiction book, My One and Only, published by William Morrow.

Her late husband, co-founder Paul Witteman, was also part of the Time, Inc, family, serving as Senior Editor and Writer at Time and Sports Illustrated. The name, McWitty, is a conflation of McGrath and Witteman.

The McWitty logo was designed by artist Kenneth Smith, who has worked as an art director at Time Magazine for over 25 years.

McWITTY PRESS’s books have been featured in The New York Times, People, The Reader’s Digest, Vanity Fair, on C-SPAN and NPR, and more. They have been cited for literary awards by the American Library Association, recorded for the blind by the Library of Congress, and granted a medal (for Best Memoir) by ForeWord Reviews, a champion of independent publishers.
